SAILING THROUGH WIREGRASS
A Children's book written and illustrated by Cris A Lawson
COMING SOON...2024
An 1800's Southern Legacy
A day exploring the South Georgia pine forest for a young boy and his birddog turns into an adventure when they encounter a mysterious ships machinist turned timber tycoon, Captain Henry Harding Tift.
Sailing Through Wiregrass is a truly American story about the birth of a South Georgia City named Tifton, and the vision of its founder. It celebrates the legacy of our rural heritage and shares how one person can impact history through fulfilling a dream while stewarding the resources from the land.
Filled with original illustrations lifted from the Georgia Museum of Agriculture’s Historic Village, this simple story comes to life in the hearts and minds of all who visit...and who call South Georgia home.
Cris A. Lawson, author & illustrator
Cris is a life-long Tifton, Georgia resident who enjoyed a childhood visiting grandparents who lived on southern farmsteads. She and her husband, Edward, currently live in Chula, Georgia at Knotted Pine Stables where they raised their two sons and a multitude of hunting dogs, and Tennessee Walking horses. The birth of their first grandson, Jeffrey Edward Lawson, inspired her to capture the life she values and the legacy of those who came before. A love of local history, the beauty of the rural south, and appreciation of all things nostalgic, blend to make this a cherished story to bring to life for future generations. Her greatest joy comes from seeing her grandson experience all things “outside” with a favorite birddog bounding by his side.
